 Mini project- cultures

Students are required to design and make an accessory using crochet, beading and bead weaving.

Students will sit a 10-hour exam in school constructing and embellishing their final.

 

EXTERNAL SET EXAM

Students are required to do a 10-week project. Topic set by the exam board. Final piece will be constructed and embellished in the 10-hour exam.

Research photos/pictures of nature, observational drawings, 2 stitched samples of each chosen designer, using their style. 2 developmental samples, including annotations and analyses. 6 Initial designs and 1 final design

Students need to produce a project which includes at least:

Clear route of chosen topic from original theme given.

Photos - evidence of primary research

2 A3 pages of observational drawings/ mark making

2 chosen designer analysis and 2 samples using their style.

4 developmental stitched samples with analysis and review.

2 A3 pages of form and placement photos showing clear decision making.

1 final design

Plan for exam with timings

Final piece will be constructed and embellished in the 10-hour exam.

How we assess students’ understanding in the classroom:

  • self-assessment
  • teachers’ assessments
  • Group self-assessments

How we support learning:

  • Students discuss and analyse each other’s work as a group discussion.
  • Verbal assessments are given on each piece of work.
  • Individual one to one time given to each student.
  • . Outside lesson time students may go over and discuss work or need extra help.
  • Students are encouraged to choose skills, designers to achieve a higher level where possible.

 

How parents can support learning:

  • Support homework activities
  • Students needs a designated area as equipment can take up room and time can be lengthy.
  • Parents are encouraged to support the buying of various materials and equipment they may need.
  • Incorporate visits to shows, museum, libraries, exhibitions etc.
