How we assess students’ understanding in the classroom:

  • ü We use mini whiteboards, which immediately show the understanding of whole class.
  • ü We check how students found the homework which shows whether the class can repeat the skill.
  • ü We create an environment which encourages students to ask questions, and this informs the teacher of any misunderstandings.
  • ü We return to previous topics at the start of lessons which shows recall over time.

How we support learning:

  • ü The students are taught in ability groups
  • ü Lower ability groups are small with extra teaching support
  • ü We produce appropriate revision material before assessments which encourages students to take responsibility for their own revision.
  • ü We run revision lessons before assessments so students can go over any problems
  • ü Drop in culture to give personalised support outside the classroom

How parents can support learning:

  • Ø Make sure that students miss as few Maths lessons as possible.
  • Ø If your daughter misses a Maths lesson, encourage her to catch up the work if possible before her next Maths lesson which may build on the work she missed.
  • Ø Make sure that your daughter is organised with all equipment necessary for Maths lessons, in particular her mini whiteboard and marker, calculator and geometry set.
  • Ø Encourage and support homework – set after every Maths lesson.
  • Ø If your daughter is struggling with homework, guide them to look back at the work that has been done in class.
  • Ø Contact the school if you have any concerns.
