Informal Education

Informal Education is a very exciting and integral feature of Menorah High School for Girls Sixth Form experience.

The key aim of the Informal Education Department is to inculcate a love of and appreciation for Judaism through its activities, which include trips, Shabbatonim, activities and more. It is also through the informal education department that Sixth Formers are able to further build the skills required for their future lives.

Our Sixth Formers have numerous opportunities to showcase their skills, creative talents, leadership skills, develop teaching expertise and much else through the running of the school show and planning, implementing and facilitating numerous activities for the younger years.

Working in conjunction with the Jewish Studies Department and the school as a whole, the informal education team aim to achieve their objectives through experiential learning, relationship building and fun activities.

The department works with external organisations to enhance the quality of its offerings by using resources available in the community such as guest speakers and charities.

Residential trips in the Sixth Form include Shabbatonim, a Prague trip in Yr. 12 and a landmark Poland trip in Yr. 13. These provide students the opportunity to experience and explore Judaism and its rich history in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. These trips of Jewish historical interest also give our students an understanding of their past and an appreciation for the role that they can play in shaping their future.

Our Sixth Form students are also given the opportunity to hone their leadership skills by assisting with school trips for lower years. Our Sixth Formers also act as mentors to younger year groups, taking time to engage with them.

Students assist with programmes for the lower years such as Chanukah and Purim activities as well as the monthly Rosh Chodesh programmes. As well as enjoying these activities and them being wonderful character builders, many of our students will utilise their participation in these activities as part of creating CVs, personal statements or in interviews, all forming a part of supporting their transition to adult life.
