Welcome to the Careers Hub at MHSG - Moving Forward‘ Preparing our pupils for their future’

At MHSG, all students are entitled to a programme of careers education and guidance from Year 7 – 13 based on the Gatsby Benchmarks.  Our Moving Forward programme is designed to give students the skills to manage their futures and careers successfully by:

  • Raising achievement and expectations
  • Making optimal choices
  • Maximising opportunities
  • Managing transitions

As a student of MHSG you will be encouraged to:

  • Understand yourself, your interests, likes and dislikes, your skills and how this affects the choices you make at each stage of your career in the School and in the world you will enter afterwards
  • Make realistic, but ambitious, choices about courses and careers
  • Develop a plan of action for the future
  • Understand the different progression routes after Years 11, 12 and 13. These routes will include, further and higher education, seminaries, apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities
  • Be able to make effective applications for university, seminary, apprenticeships, training and employment including writing effective CVs/Personal Statements and developing your interview skills

 At MHSG we have an organised programme of careers education and guidance

Year 7 - Interpersonal and study skills, self-organisation, looking at personal qualities, skills and interests

Year 8 – Setting targets, work categories, citizenship, soft skills, decision making and options guidance for GCSE

Year 9 – Career exploration, the world of work, employability skills, and personal interests

Year 10 – Further Career Exploration, Self-assessment and organisation, Employability skills, CVs.

Year 11 – Post 16 options, Further Education, Higher Education, study skills, action planning, Careers Interviews

Year 12 – one to one advice, Interview Skills, Personal Statement Training,

Year 13 – Moving On, help with University and Seminary Applications, Exploration of alternative pathways such as Apprenticeships

 At MHSG There will be the opportunity for

  • Work Experience
  • Independent One to one Careers Advice with a qualified Advisor
  • Careers Advice –Madame Marchant is available at breaks and Lunchtimes for individual advice and signposting

 At MHSG you will also have the opportunity to

  • Attend extra-curricular events e.g. Careers Events ( Meet the Professionals) Alumni speakers, Access to H.E. opportunities, career talks and workshops and Enterprise and Finance activities
