Careers Support in the Sixth Form

Sixth Form students have careers support from Madame Jo Marchant, our Careers co-ordinator and UCAS advisor. Our careers programme meets the requirements of the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers provision. Students will have a careers interview in Yr. 12 with an independent careers advisor. The interview will discuss their progress with their Level 3 courses and the likely requirements to enter into higher education. The interview will also cover student’s career aspirations and the areas of employment that they may be suitable for.

In Yr. 12 students also undergo a week long period of work experience. Students are encouraged to arrange their placements within a work sector that complements their Level 3 courses or future career aspirations. The Head of Sixth Form and Careers co-ordinator run sessions prior to and post work experience in order to prepare our students for the work place and also to share their experiences and feedback as a group. Students are given a booklet to complete whilst on their work experience placements to encourage deliberation and consideration of their experiences and what they have learnt from it.

Students are granted authorised absences to visit open days and students are signposted towards relevant and appropriate opportunities by the careers co-ordinator. We bring visitors into school to discuss their own academic and professional trajectory and all sixth form students are offered the opportunity to attend these sessions.

Our biennial ‘Meet the Professionals’ evening is a highlight whereby mainly alumnus of the school, representing a huge and diverse range of professions and careers, come together to showcase their chosen fields both in terms of the route that they took to get to where they are today and the experience that they have working in the field. This is an essential part of our Sixth Form experience as it affords our students opportunity to speak to women within their own community who are meeting the challenges of life in the 21st Century, whilst remaining true to their religious convictions and ever proud of their unique heritage.
